Helping Youth Move Forward

A young person’s past involvement with the justice system should not define their future. Consistent support, meaningful goals, and opportunities to reconnect with school, family, and community can help youth build a different path.

People United of Louisiana’s prevention approach focuses on the needs behind a young person’s challenges. That may include behavioral health support, family connections, education, positive relationships, and referrals to community opportunities. We want youth to participate in setting goals they can work toward.

Areas of focus

  • Identifying strengths, needs, and personal goals.

  • Connecting youth and families with appropriate services.

  • Supporting healthy decision-making and coping skills.

  • Encouraging continued engagement in education or training.

  • Helping youth identify positive people and opportunities in their community.
